CUALITY

CUALITY: AI-based real-time and non-destructive characterisation of low grade and complex non-ferous metal streams.

An ICON project subsidized by VLAIO (HBC.2025.0599), fully aligned with the MateriNex Innovation Roadmap Critical Raw Materials

This project runs from 1 January 2026 to March 31, 2029.

Project Aim

The aim of the CUALITY project is to develop innovative characterisation technologies that enhance the recovery of valuable materials from complex and low-grade non-ferrous metal streams. By improving insight into the composition of these streams, the project seeks to support more efficient recycling processes, higher value recovery and stronger industrial competitiveness in Flanders.

Development Objectives

Within CUALITY, the partners focus on developing advanced tools and methods for the real-time, detailed and non-destructive characterisation of complex metal streams.

The project specifically aims to:

  • develop AI-based, real-time and non-destructive characterisation technology
  • improve insight into the mass balances and chemical composition of low-grade and complex non-ferrous metal streams
  • support more accurate sorting, processing and recovery of valuable materials
  • strengthen the competitiveness and innovation capacity of the Flemish non-ferrous metal recycling industry
  • foster close collaboration between research partners and key industrial players in Flanders
