MateriNex - Nexus for Sustainable Materials Research in Flanders

Commissioned by VLAIO and the Flemish government's Department of Economy, Science and Innovation, MateriNex facilitates and manages sustainable materials research in Flanders by stimulating cooperation between industrial and academic stakeholders.

MateriNex Innovation Topics

In consultation with industrial and academic stakeholders, three innovation topics were selected for the launch of MateriNex. These topics align with both the EU research agenda and Flemish policy priorities. A roadmap has been created for each of these innovation themes to provide a framework for elaborating and assessing project proposals. Each roadmap contains a limited number of application domains and several common "transversal" challenges related to digitalization and "safe and sustainable by design" (including circularity).

The innovation topics and their corresponding roadmaps with application domains are:

MateriNex as facilitator

MateriNex facilitates the development of collaborative research projects and the dissemination of research results. It supports these activities by providing access to funding through the Fund for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (FIO) for cSBO, ICON and O&O research projects, including feasibility studies.

To maximise the dissemination of research results, MateriNex collaborates with a wide range of stakeholder organisations, including the collective centres and the spearhead clusters. It also maintains regular dialogue with academia and works closely with stakeholders to identify and develop new innovation opportunities.
